“It was just the greatest, really. The amount of trust that you feel for him, that you can place all of your trust in him if you’re a fan of his work. Which I am, I’m a fan of all of his movies so I love his taste and I love the performances that he gets from people, that he edits from people. So going into it like that, you go, ‘I can let go.’ You can let go in a scene, and you don’t have to worry about doing what you want to do because you know that whatever he’s got in mind is going to be better than what you want to do.“ Andrew Garfield (on working with David Fincher)
“We had been talking about doing Benjamin Button long before Babel and actually before The Fountain. Because Cate was originally gonna do The Fountain with Brad. As my movie would fall apart, somebody would say, “Hey, did you hear? Brad’s doing this movie with Darren Aronofsky…” And I’d say, “Oh, Great!” then “…Yeah, with Cate Blanchett.” and I’d be like… (grrrrr). Then that would fall apart…and I’m sorry about that Darren…but, gleefully. And then came Babel. Which when I saw I didn’t think was treading anywhere near the area of Benjamin Button. They’re wonderful together. They’re just so easy. The “feeling out” process was way over. So in that way, I was glad they were in Babel. Even if… the pairing of them was really my idea.” - David Fincher, on the casting process for Benjamin Button.
