I’m a huge fan of Nicolas Winding Refn. He has a sense of audacity to him. In fact, he has a great sense of light and color and music. He creates his own conventions.

[Movies] literally turn him on, and if they don’t then he’s not interested in it. He sexualizes them, he fetishizes them. It doesn’t matter if it’s a pair of gloves or it’s the way something sits in the frame, it physically has to excite him or he’s bored. So he’s making these movies only for himself and so they feel personal.
